South Woodstock - A Hamlet of Woodstock

South Woodstock is a hamlet of the larger community of Woodstock, Vermont and has it own personality. It is home to expansive meadows and gently rolling hills, which make the area an especially popular equestrian community and home to the internationally renowned event facility - GMHA - Green Mountain Horse Association. Upon entering South Woodstock, you are greeted by the old-fashioned South Woodstock Country Store and post office.

Both spots are a good place to meet the locals year round.

It's All Downhill

Downhill Skiing

Downhill skiing has a long history in the Upper Valley. In fact the very first mechanical up-hill towing system was set up in Woodstock, Vermont. What makes the skiing in the area so attractive is that the slopes are so well designed and cared for during the summer months that with a minimal snowfall the slopes are excellent for downhill skiing.

However, there is plenty of snowmaking to further enhance the experience.

Winter in Vermont - the air is crisp. The sunny days are brilliant! The views are clear and everything is dressed in its best winter whites. The snow is pure and activities are everywhere. It’s so easy to feel fortunate in winter in Vermont. The cool aura of an invigorating winter day compels you to be outside and no one will bother to ask you why you are wearing a long-sleeved shirt.

Driving in the Upper Valley area is always a treat. There are an abundance of scenic roads displaying lush forest areas, meadows, farms, rivers and streams. The Appalachian Trail winds through the heart of the area. There are numerous short day hikes and one can gain easy access to the Vermont Long Trail as well.

Lakes and Ponds - In the Good Old Summertime!

The Upper Valley is on the same latitude as Tuscany in Italy so summers are warm and sunny. It is a nice time to be out on the water or sitting by a beautiful lake or pond. You may expect bright blue skies, green forests and colorful flowers. The day time temperatures are comfortable and we can get an occasional ‘heat wave’ yet the green canopies and cool-water mountain streams keep the temperature comfortable.

The Upper Valley is perfect for endless outdoor summer adventures or just to relax and do nothing at all!

Balloons Over Quechee

The Quechee Hot Air Balloon Festival is the longest running hot air balloon festival in New England. Balloons soar over the picture-perfect Vermont landscape. Some even dip down into the Quechee Gorge. They are a beautiful sight.
